The economy and mortgage crisis are two issues you read or see in the news every day.  This past year Assemblyman Garrick had a chance to help protect homeowners and he failed to do so.

Foreclosure Relief – Garrick Opposed

SB 1137: Enacts several changes to the procedures that must followed before a mortgage holder may issue a notice of default or notice of trustee sale, and requires the holder to mail a specified notice of the tenant(s) of a property which have begun proceedings for foreclosure. It also imposes penalties on property owners who fail to adequately maintain foreclosed properties. Garrick opposed the bill. [Signed into law by the Governor; July 2008]

Homeowner Loan Protection Bill – Garrick Opposed

AB 2359: This bill would prohibit lenders from requiring that borrowers waive their legal rights, including their right to file a complaint with any state agency and the right to bring legal action to enforce predatory loan laws.  Among other things, the bill would curb mandatory arbitration provisions in loan agreements. [In State Senate; July 2008]

One only needs to look at Assembly member Martin Garrick’s voting record to see that he is out of touch and out of step with the community he represents.

Domestic Violence – Garrick did not bother to vote

SB 1356: This bill ensures that victims of domestic violence have the same statutory protections as sexual assault victims and exempts them from the threat of being incarcerated for refusal to testify against their perpetrators. Domestic violence victims, like many sexual assault victims, are victimized by perpetrators they know, and experience similar psychological trauma and fear of retribution from the abuser or the abuser’s family members.

Climate Change - Garrick Opposed

AB 2093: Under AB 2093, cities and counties will be required to address climate change in their general plans, which are the blueprints for their future growth.

CONTRIBUTIONS

State Assembly Representative Martin Garrick has received almost ½ a million from key industries and PACs in exchange for promises to lookout for those interests at the expense of the public interest.  He has received very little from average citizens.  Whereas Brett has received all his money from grassroots supporters made up of average citizens who are tired of seeing the public interest betrayed by their representatives.
